HAIR GROWTH AND RESTORATION
Hair is constantly in a simultaneous yet cyclical state of growth and loss. About 85-90% of hair strands remain in the anagen phase, a state of active growth for an average of 3-5 and up to 9 years. A shortened anagen phase leads to finer, thinning hair with less vibrancy and color.
About 5% of hairs are in the catagen or transitional phase, a period of 3-4 weeks in which the hair follicles shrink and detach the hair from its blood supply, allowing in a sense for follicle renewal.
Another 5-10% of strands are in the telegen phase which lasts for 1-4 months and is a state of quiescence or rest in which the hairs are neither growing or falling out.
The final or exogenous phase results in the shedding of dead or damaged hair to make room for new growth. This phase lasts for 3-4 weeks with an average person losing 75-100 hairs daily. These terminal hairs are replaced by baby fine hairs similar to that which we are born with. Alopecia results when the hair we lose is not replaced by new growth.
Studies suggest it is not the lack of proliferating progenitor cells to generate hair follicle growth in male pattern baldness, but rather decreased thickness and stability of the hair extracellular matrix and subsequent inability of the hair follicles to reactivate and initiate hair regeneration.
AERATING THE CROPS
Micro needling of the scalp serves to activate the hair follicles and stimulate the production of and communication between keratinocytes and fibroblasts to synthesize collagen, elastin and at the proteins laminin and fibronectin which comprise and maintain the structure integrity of the hair matrix and stimulate renewed growth.
Micro needling sessions for hair restoration are recommended every 2 weeks to once monthly for 6-12 treatments to achieve optimal results.
After care lotion to be applied daily to clean and dry scalp for the following 3-5 days will be provided at the completion of each session.
Herbal scalp and hair sprays and/or herbal hair supplements are often recommended in conjunction with and between micro needling session to accelerate and enhance results.
